NFD is anchored by myself, Principal Naval Architect & Owner, Nate Frederickson. An early love of sailing & life on the water in my native New England drew me to the field, and I gravitated towards Webb Institute for a formal education in the art and engineering of boat & ship design (and to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering).

Following college, I ventured west, where I spent several years gaining experience and establishing relationships by working in a variety of design offices, boatyards, and conducting on-the-water testing.  I founded the company after earning my Professional Engineering License in 2006.

Although personal interests have expanded over the years to include exploring the Pacific Northwest by foot, skis, and bicycle, I maintain an attachment to the waterfront and a healthy respect for the world's waterways & oceans.

I have been fortunate to cultivate relationships with many talented marine designers, engineers, architects, and builders in the Puget Sound area.  The area offers a wealth of skilled and dependable individuals and organizations with a broad range of capabilities in the marine field.  I also continue to maintain business relationships with colleagues on the east coast.  Whether you're looking for a design team, engineering support, a qualified builder, project manager, or vessel operator - if I can't meet your needs directly, I would be happy to assemble a team to suit, or to connect you with someone who can.
